Born Cameron Jibril Thomaz, Wiz Khalifa is an accomplished American rapper, songwriter and actor. A well-versed international rapper, Khalifa has released over four world-class albums which all stood out and gained him popularity as one of America’s most favourite rappers.

Besides music, rapper Wiz enjoys smoking weed and is a strong advocate of marijuana. His love for marijuana reportedly began when he was a child. At the time, his mother saw no problem with it but his father kicked against it. But after some time, his father changed his mind and embraced his smoking habit.

Khalifa got his first tattoo at the age of 16 – an act which brought his childhood aspiration to fruition. Since after his mother took him to get his first tattoo, he has continued to design his body with it, including tattooing his stage name on his body.

Wiz Khalifa’s Early Life and Career Beginnings

Cameron Jibril Thomaz was born in Minot, North Dakota on September 8, 1987, to Peachie Wimbush (mother) and Laurence Thomaz (father).

As a military officer, Laurence had to move from one city to another with his young family. Together with his family, he once lived in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

However, he spent a majority of his life in Pittsburgh, where his son, Khalifa also attended Taylor Allderdice High School. Laurence and Katie separated when Khalifa was only three years old.

Wiz majorly grew up in Pittsburgh with his older brother, Doren “Lala” Thomaz, who was born on October 31, 1984. “Lala”, a transgender, died on February 20, 2017, at the age of 32 from complications from lymphoma. He also has a half-sister whose name is Lauren Thomaz.

Rapper Khalifa, whose major influences in the music industry are The Notorious B.I.G, Jimi Hendrix, Camp Lo and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, was named Khalifa (which means successor in Arabic) and “young wiz” (a shortened representation of the name “Wisdom”) by his Muslim grandfather when he was a young boy. According to him, this was because he excelled at everything he did as a child.

His Musical Journey So Far

Wiz showed skill and efficiency in everything he did as a child. His musical journey began when he contributed to a mixed tape which featured a number of artists from Pittsburgh. President of Rostrum records Benjy Grinberg was quickly impressed by his performance and signed him.

After releasing lots of Mixtapes, The Rolling Stones magazine in 2006 announced him as an artist to watch. He later signed to Atlantic records in 2010 and released the hit single “Black and Yellow”. It peaked at the top spot on Billboard 100. Wiz has released at least 5 studio albums. “Khalifa”, released in 2016 featured the hit single “See You Again” which received a Grammy nomination. The song was a tribute to late ‘Fast and Furious’ actor Paul Walker.

Film & TV

Wiz made his film debut with 2012 movie “Mac and Devin Go To High School” which also featured fellow rapper Snoop Dogg and is the most popular of the 5 movies he has starred.

His 2011 song “Young, Wild and Free” was used as the soundtrack for the movie. The track which featured Snoop Dogg and Bruno Mars sold about 160,000 copies in its first week of release and also debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 100. Like other rappers in the music industry, Wiz is always on the outlook for other money-making business ventures with a focus on sponsorship and licensing deals. Relationship with Amber Rose and Son

While Amber Rose is well known for being rapper Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend, “Work Hard, Play Hard” hitmaker, Wiz Khalifa is famed for being Amber’s former husband. The respected rapper got married to the American model in a 2013 high-toned marriage ceremony which was graced by American magnates and heavyweights.

The American first-rate rapper and his then sweetheart started seeing each other in early 2011. They, however, took their relationship to the next level on March 1, 2012, when they formally announced their engagement.

A year and four months after their world-class engagement, Khalifa and Amber Rose then tied the knot, precisely on July 8, 2013. In the same year, the pair welcomed their first child Sebastian Taylor Thomaz, who arrived on February 21, 2013.

Khalifa and Amber’s marriage, however, took a turn for the worse in 2015 which saw them go separate ways after Rose filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences between her and her husband. The pair finalized their split in June 2016 when they officially ended their crisis-torn and short-lived marriage. They went on to mark their divorce at a strip club, where the pair apparently showed that there’s still love between them despite their separation.

As contained in the court documents, Khalifa was ordered by the law to pay Amber a whopping $1 million. Amber is said to have received $356,000 of the money from her ex-husband and is patiently waiting for the remaining $644,000.

Despite separating from each other, Khalifa and Amber have continued to play influential parental roles in the life of their only son. In addition to this, both share legal and physical custody of young Sebastian.
