Frankie Avalon, born Francis Thomas Avallone on September 18, 1940, is an Italian-American actor, singer, and former teen idol. He has had a successful career spanning several decades, leaving a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

Early on, Avalon displayed his musical talents, particularly as a trumpet player. He made his American network television debut in 1952, playing the trumpet in the “Christmas Party” sketch on “The Jackie Gleason Show.” As a teenager, he played with Bobby Rydell in the band Rocco and the Saints, showcasing his skills and gaining experience in the music industry.

Avalon’s breakthrough as a singer came in 1959 with the chart-topping hits “Venus” and “Why,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. These successes marked the pinnacle of his music career, with a total of 31 charted singles in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

In addition to his music, Avalon ventured into acting, making his film debut with a small appearance in the 1957 movie “Jamboree.” He went on to star in a series of beach movies, most notably alongside Annette Funicello in the popular Beach Party film series of the 1960s. His performance as the Teen Angel in the hit musical film “Grease” in 1978 introduced him to a new generation of viewers.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Avalon continued to be active in the entertainment industry, appearing in various films, television episodes, and stage productions. He even made a cameo appearance in the 1995 film “Casino” alongside Robert De Niro.

In recent years, Avalon has focused on marketing and created his own line of health and cosmetic products called Frankie Avalon Products. He has also made appearances on television shows such as “American Idol” and continues to perform in concert tours, often alongside fellow 1960s teen idols Fabian and Bobby Rydell.

On a personal note, Avalon has been married to Kathryn “Kay” Diebel since January 19, 1963. They have eight children together, and their sons Frankie Jr. and Tony often perform with their father on tour.
