It is often said that behind every successful man is a strong woman. A good example of such a strong woman is Lorenza Newton, a Mexican art director and an accomplished veterinarian. She is also better known as the ex-wife of acclaimed Hollywood director, Guillermo Del Toro. The couple had been together for three decades during which Newton supported her husband in his illustrious career. The couple however shocked the world in 2017 when they announced their split for reasons best known to them alone. So, what caused their divorce? All this and more will be revealed below.

Bio & Age – Who is Lorenza Newton?

Lorenza Newton was born on the 11^th day of March 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Her nationality is, therefore, Mexican while her ethnicity is Latina. Newton spent her formative years in the town of Guadalajara and completed her elementary and high school education there. She then attended the University of Guadalajara where she obtained a degree in veterinary medicine. Since then, Newton has dedicated herself to the care of animals and has built an impressive veterinary practice.

The multi-talented Newton has also delved into the movie business, working as an art director on the 1986 short film, Dona Lupe. The short drama revolved around an elderly woman who rents a house to two men as a result of financial distress but later grows wary of the men due to their suspicious activities.

Parents

Newton has not disclosed specific details about her parents’ names or any potential siblings of hers. The most we do know about her family background is that she is the cousin of popular Mexican singer, Guadalupe Pineda who is considered one of the icons of Mexican grassroots music. She majorly sings in Spanish and has released no less than 30 albums in the course of her career. She has also received multiple awards including the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Pineda has sold more than 10 million records and has performed all over the world.

On graduating college, Del Toro went into the movie industry and spent ten years as a special effects artist. He thereafter delved into production and directing with great success. Lorenza Newton first met her husband while they were both students at the University of Guadalajara. They later commenced a relationship and tied the knot in 1986. The couple would go on to enjoy a blissful 30-year union during which they split their time between Mexico and the U.S. Newton also regularly accompanied her husband to red carpet events as well as award ceremonies. Newton’s marriage to Del Toro produced two daughters namely Mariana and Marisa Del Toro. Both ladies keep a low profile and this may not be unconnected to their family’s experience.

Their paternal grandfather, Federico Del Toro, was kidnapped in the year 1997, he spent 72 days in captivity and the family paid millions of dollars in ransom in order to secure his release. The money was never recovered and his captors were never found. The experience forced the entire Del Toro family to move abroad. It also hindered their frequent visits to their hometown.
