Alaa Nassif was one of the second wives of Jamal Khashoggi. The journalist who was murdered brutally was reportedly married and divorced at least three times.

Alaa Nassif was married to Khashoggi for an extended period of time and later divorced. However, the precise date of their marriage and divorce are unknown.

Before Nassif, her ex-husband was married to Rawia al-Tunisi, with whom he had four kids, Salah, Abdullah, Noha, and Razan.

After his divorce from Alaa Nassif, Khashoggi married Hanan El-Atr, an Egyptian citizen, in a simple Muslim ceremony in northern Virginia in June 2018.

This marriage took place just a few months before Khashoggi’s tragic assassination in October 2018. Hanan El-Atr is now considered his widow.

Moreover, in July 2021, Hanan received a certified, signed copy of the marriage certificate, which served as proof of her marriage with the late journalist.

Prior to that, she made their wedding photos public, and Khashoggi’s friend confirmed that he attended the wedding ceremony.

Alaa Nassif Has Been Granted Political Asylum In US

As reported by the New York Times, Alaa Nassif was granted political asylum in late November in the US.

This suggests that she may have sought protection in the US due to fears for her safety or persecution in her home country.

According to Wikipedia, political asylum is a protection granted by a country to individuals fearing persecution in their home country.

This might be due to race, religion, nationality, social group membership, or political opinion.

Asylum seekers, often victims of threats and physical harm, must demonstrate a specific risk of targeted persecution.

The persecutor may be the government or a group beyond government control. If granted asylum, they can reside in the new country.
