The sleeping chicken meme, also known as ‘NyQuil Chicken,’ is making a comeback on TikTok, but doctors are concerned that its side effects might be deadly.

TikTok is also known for its large number of viral recipes, many of which are complete meals and sweet treats.

Some have even gained massive followings as a result of their straightforward cooking advice, which has millions flocking to their videos.

However, a dish may go viral on social media and cause a stir on its way. ‘NyQuil Chicken’ or ‘Sleepy Chicken,’ which first emerged several years ago via social media, is one such recipe. The dish’s name, according to its color, is fitting: it braises chicken in cold medication and makes it a less-than-desirable shade of blue.

What Is The Sleepy Chicken Trend On TikTok?

TikTok’s odd “Sleepy Chicken,” also known as “NyQuil chicken,” is a craze in which users create their own chicken dish, claiming it’s a cure for the flu. However, the recipe is one you should not try because it is extremely dangerous. It has also been dubbed the “Nyquil chicken” dish. A medicine similar to Night Nurse would be found in the United Kingdom.

TikTok users are making Nyquil-infused chicken for their ‘recipe,’ as part of this ‘technique.’ The solution is supposed to provide nighttime comfort, such as colds and other illnesses, by putting up to half a bottle of the medicine over your meat while it simmers on fire in several TikTok videos.

The dish, as it appears to us, is repulsive. It looks less like a cure than something that might make you sick after eating. The specialists are in agreement with this view.

Doctors Warn Against The Dangerous Trend

“The notion that saturating any food product with a medicine in the hope of obtaining some new health advantage or cure is not only stupid, but also extremely irresponsible,” Dr. Jeff Foster, a professor at Indiana University School of Medicine, told The Sun.

The doctor stressed the importance of taking any medicine in the correct quantities. He stated, “We have doses on medications for a reason. If you soak food in it and then cook it, you’re very likely to overdose or at least have no idea what dose you’re receiving.”

A Boston physician, Dr. Aaron Hartman, noted how this pattern might backfire. Speaking to MIC.com, he said, “When you cook cough medication like NyQuil,” you lose the water and booze in it, leaving the chicken filled with a super-dense concentration of medications in the meat. “If you ate one of those cutlets completely cooked, it’d be as if you’re actually consuming a quarter to half a bottle of NyQuil.”

The doctor went on to say that because of the proximity of the chicken to other animals and humans, there is a risk of illness and diarrhoea. However, there are greater hazards involved. Dr Hartman also stated that when cooking your chicken in medicine, you breathe in the medication as well as eating it. That’s not a good idea at all.

TikTok Issues Warning Against Harmful Challenges And Hoaxes

If you search for ‘Nyquil Chicken’ on TikTok, you’ll be unable to see these clips. The platform is diligently removing all of these videos, and for good reason. TikTok has a section on its support page where it instructs users how to identify and avoid spreading hoaxes as a search result. The Sleepy Chicken fad is unquestionably one of them, and you should avoid it!
