A hip-hop act who doesn’t smoke or brag doing weed sets because he really doesn’t know it… It seems nearly impossible in a time when bragging about flashing things has become the norm for stars rap. Well, Vince Staples is here to bring about a revolution, although he doesn’t like to think of himself as a revolutionary. A former member of the infamous Crip gang, he is content to change his lifestyle, he thinks he deserves it.

Some sources have gone so far as to label anti-rapper of our time, but make no mistake, Staples’ lines are just as good as the other side and even better than some. His repentant lifestyle is based on adhering to right-wing culture. He speaks poorly, an attribute that is hard to miss if you listen to any of his tracks.

A member of XXL’s Freshman Class of 2015, Staples has had great success with his music with at least two albums to his credit. He doesn’t even think himself successful. Call it controversial if you will, but the young boy doesn’t even care. Read on to learn more about hitmaker Summertime.

Vince Staples Wiki, Mom/Family

Vincent Jamal Staples was born on July 2, 1993, the last child of a family of 6 children in Compton, California. He has two brothers and three sisters. One of them died in 2014. Raised in an environment of crime, Staples and his family, all involved in gangsterism in one way or another, lived in abject poverty.

His parents soon divorced, his father later arrested on Christmas Day and then sent to prison. A subject that Staples prefers to keep to himself, even if he reveals certain details in the lyrics of his song “Nate”.

In an effort to raise her children away from abuse, Vince’s mother, Eloise Staples, whom her son called a tomboy, moved the entire family to the Ramona Park neighborhood of North Long Beach, California. Vince was just a freshman at the time. However, the family’s move couldn’t stop Vince from getting involved in gang violence. As he has repeatedly confessed, all the members of his family were part of it.

Vince attended many high schools for being fired for a problem or going to Mayfair High in Lakewood where he was robbed on the phone.

Despite a difficult life, Staples was one of the smartest kids in his class. His interests range from politics to current affairs and writing.

Before getting kicked out of Mayfair High, Vince had aspired to go to college and graduate school and even play basketball. However, constantly having to change schools, his dreams evaporated.

His mother had to send him away to live with one of his sisters in Atlanta for 8 months, away from gang violence. However, when he returned, he started from where he left off.

Although Vince never thought of music as a career path, it somehow became his saving grace. His musical journey began in 2010 when he met and became friends with Dijon Samo, who then took him to Los Angeles, where he met members of Odd Future including Syd the Kid, Earl Sweatshirt and Mike G .

Featured Vince on some of their just for fun tracks. When the band broke up, Vince became close friends with Earl and the two fled to Samoa where they recorded the controversial song epaR which gained them a certain level of popularity.

Vince then decided to take the music seriously at the suggestion of former manager Corey Smyth, who had previously managed De La Soul and Dave Chappelle. Ultimately, Smyth was able to secure a recording contract from Staples with Def Jam after being impressed with his second mixtape, Winter In Prague, produced by Michael Uzowuru.

He reconnected with Earl who introduced him to Mac Miller, whose works he would use on his mixtape Stolen Youth (2013), which became his episode.

In the fall of 2014, Staples released their first EP with Def Jam titled, Hell Can Wait. Staples has since been on the rise, including A$AP Rocky. His track BagBak from his 7-track EP Prima Donna was used for the trailer for Marvel Studios’ Black Panther movie.

Her second album, Big Fish Theory, was released in July 2017 to critical acclaim.

While music saved him from the streets and gave him new life, Vince doesn’t like to consider himself rich. You won’t see him going around with gold chains or wads of cash. He’s not that guy. He even drove a lot to shows… But he owns a stylish Benz E-Class coupe.
