Nigel Lawson, a well-known figure in British politics during the 1980s and a former Chancellor of the Exchequer under Margaret Thatcher, passed away at the age of 91.

He played a crucial role in the government’s initiatives to shrink the size of the state and privatize sizeable portions of the public sector while serving as Chancellor from 1983 to 1989, a practice that has largely continued.

After news of Lawson’s passing, the current prime minister Rishi Sunak praised him as a transformational chancellor and a source of inspiration for both himself and others. Sunak even had a picture of Lawson hanging in his office when he was made chancellor.

Boris Johnson, a former prime minister of the United Kingdom, praised Lawson, calling him a “fearless and original flame of free market Conservatism” who improved the economic situation and the lives of millions of Britons. Johnson claimed that Lawson had a deep love for continental Europe and was a strong Brexit supporter.

Lawson’s departure has touched people’s hearts from all political stances because of his well-known legacy and contributions to British politics.

Thérese Maclear: Who is Nigel Lawson’s ex-wife?

Nigel Lawson’s private life has also piqued the public’s interest, particularly his marriages to two well-known ladies.

They were the parents of Nigella Lawson and Dominic Lawson, and Thérese Maclear was Nigel’s first wife.

Nigella went on to become a well-known chef and television personality, while Dominic went on to seek a career in journalism and editing. Despite having successful careers, Nigel and Thérese’s marriage broke up in 1980.

He later married Vanessa Salmon in 1986. Vanessa was a successful businesswoman and fashion editor; the two of them shared two children.

Unfortunately, after Vanessa died in 2015, Nigel had to deal with the loss of his beloved wife. Yet, he eventually experienced love again and is now married to former politician Gillian Troughton. Unfortunately, not much is known about Thérese Maclear.
