Whether you love him or hate him, there is no denying the fact that Conor McGregor is one of the greatest mixed martial artists in history. The Irish fighter has won several belts and has set as many records in the course of his career. He has also headlined some of the biggest pay-per-view fights in UFC history, thus making for some generous paydays.

Away from the ring, the flamboyant McGregor is smitten with his girlfriend of over a decade, Dee Devlin. Devlin has stuck by her man’s side through all the fame and glamour. Most importantly, she was equally there when he was a young fighter struggling to make it in Dublin.

Conor McGregor Before He Joined the UFC

Born on July 14, 1988, in Dublin, Ireland, Conor McGregor grew up in the suburb of Crumlin. He had his primary and secondary education at Gaelscoil and Gaelcholaiste respectively. During his school days, the young boy developed a passion for sports, venturing into association football before later taking to boxing. McGregor later dabbled into mixed martial arts by the time he was 16 and took to the sports like fish to water.

In 2007, the Irishman made his MMA debut when he had his first amateur bout against Kieran Campbell in Dublin. He defeated Campbell via TKO in the first round and immediately decided to go pro. McGregor spent a total of five years fighting as a pro in Ireland. He won 13 straight fights which fetched him fame and thousands of dollars in earnings. He along the way also caught the interest of UFC president Dana White who paid a visit to Dublin in February 2013 to view and possibly sign the upcoming star.

White was ultimately impressed with the fighter who had a growing fan base and ended up signing him to a UFC contract a few weeks later.

The Biggest Attraction in the UFC

Conor McGregor has come a long way from his days of fighting for peanuts on the Irish MMA circuit. The Dublin native now has a net worth of $120 million, an amount he accumulated mostly from his UFC career. He made his UFC debut on the 6th of April 2013 when he defeated opponent Marcus Brimage in the first round. His victory over Brimage was so spectacular that he was also awarded the knockout of the night award. Since then, McGregor has established himself as one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC, winning the lightweight and the featherweight championships.

Buoyed by extra skills in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and Kickboxing, Conor has also become a fan favorite and has headlined some of the biggest pay-per-view fights in UFC history. One of the most notable ones was his much-touted fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in June 2018. The fight generated 2.4 million PPVs and about $18 million in revenue. Conor also enjoyed a generous payday following his UFC 246 bout against Donald Cerrone in January 2020. The fight generated 2 million PPV buys and just over $11 million in revenue.

The above-listed fights are, however, not the biggest payday that the Irish fighter has enjoyed. That honor belongs to his highly-publicized boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in August 2017. The fight generated a total of 4.3 million PPV buys and McGregor was guaranteed to receive the sum of $30 million. That amount later snowballed to $130 million even though he lost the match.

Aside from his earnings in the ring, Conor McGregor has also landed mouth-watering endorsement deals with the likes of Burger King, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Budweiser, Beats Electronics, Monster Energy, and Reebok. The Irish fighter is also a savvy businessman who has invested his money wisely. He owns a thriving whiskey company known as Proper No. Twelve, named after the area code of his cherished hometown.
