Chancellor Donde Plowman sacked coach Jeremy Pruitt for a reason on January 18, 2021. The 5NCAA report details its inquiry into whether the Tennessee football program engaged in recruiting infractions under Pruitt.

In response to the claims, the university fired Pruitt and informed the NCAA that it had found evidence the football team had broken the regulations.

Tennessee claims it is exempt from paying Pruitt’s $12.6 million buyout due to the latter’s termination for cause.

Additionally, the action sent a message to the NCAA that any sanctions imposed should be lenient because the university responded quickly and forcefully to breaches when they were discovered.

Besides, the assistant coaches, Shelton Felton and Brian Niedermeyer, were also fired due to the recruitment controversy. Here are their bios.

In January 2021, along with Brian Niedermeyer and Shelton Felton, Pruitt and six other individuals were fired by Tennessee. Niedermeyer is currently the defensive coordinator of Florida’s I.M.G. Academy, a top high school.

Moreover, Felton is now the head coach of one of the best teams in the country at Valdosta High School in Georgia.

Less than two weeks after Pruitt was fired in January 2021, the San Diego Chargers signed Derrick Ansley to serve as their defensive backs coach. The NCAA has named him in connection with two alleged Level I violations.

Per the NCAA, Ansley helped distribute tens of thousands of dollars in cash; hotel stays, meals, entertainment, transportation, and team gear to recruits.

Likewise, six of the nine prospects that enrolled at Tennessee and played for the Vols participated in matches.
