Being a script doctor is like making love to a beautiful woman and hearing her call out someone else's name.
I have never liked the term 'script doctor' because, in essence, every writer on a movie can be called that. It also implies that the other writers were somehow deficient. I prefer to be referred to as a participating writer.
Writing a screenplay is like driving at night. You can only see as far as your headlights, but it's possible to make the entire journey that way.
I don't like reading other people's screenplays. In fact, I don't even like reading my own.
Why does almost everyone I meet ask me to write a movie about their life? I don't want anyone writing a movie about MY life!

|---|---|
(May 20, 1992) Kunes sold an original screenplay entitled "First Comes Love" to Westport Film Partners (headed by former Warner Bros. Music president Stephen-Craig Aristei) for $1.2 million. This was the highest amount ever paid for an original screenplay at the time of its sale, and made the front page of Daily Variety.
Wrote 684 monologues for Johnny Carson between 1988 and 1992.
(May 22, 1992) During his last four years on "The Tonight Show," Kunes was Johnny Carson's favorite monologue writer and wrote the final joke that Carson ever delivered.
Sold 60 episodes of comedy series "Over My Dead Body" for $8 million to YouTube Red in 2016.
(January 2007-Present) Is an adjunct assistant professor in the Creative Writing Program at New York University.
Moved to Montecito, California where he continues to write and helps aspiring writers through seminars and workshops. [November 2006]
Lives on Broad Beach Road in Malibu, California [July 2006]
Has been a ham radio operator since age 13 (KQ6DF, formerly WA3MZV).
Likes to work with cinematographer John Seale.
Favorite movie: "Midnight Cowboy."
Writes most of his screenplays with Dustin Hoffman in mind.
Graduated from New York University in 1978.
Writes his screenplays by hand on a yellow legal pad.
Likes to tell strangers he's a taxidermist or an insurance underwriter.
