Philip Alan Hosterman was a musician by career.

In his early years, Philip Holsterman used to play the piano and saxophone when he had gigs in high school.

He later founded Kandahar Trading Company Limited which made ethnic design accessories.

Philip Hosterman, the late father of singer and actress Dove Cameron, rose to fame playing both title characters on Disney’s Liv and Maddie.

Philip Hosterman married Bonnie Wallace in Peshawar, Pakistan and they had two daughters, Dove and Claire.

Philip Hosterman died by suicide on October 18, 2011.

At the time of his death, his daughter Dove was 15 years old and has been open about the impact his suicide has had on her life.

In 2017, she revealed that she changed her name to Dove — her father’s nickname for her — after his death to pay tribute.

Dove has written on Instagram about the “intense pain and loss” following his suicide, and called him “the most beautiful man I have ever known.”
