Acclaimed American actor Caryn Elaine John, known professionally as Whoopi Goldberg, has recently been the victim of a death hoax.

Whoopi Goldberg is one of if not the most celebrated and acclaimed actors of her generation and of all time. Not only is Goldberg a recipient of numerous accolades, but she is also one of seventeen entertainers to win an EGOT, which means she has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award.

She is the first African American woman to have achieved the EGOT. She won the Oscar for her performance in the movie Ghost in 1990, a Grammy in 1986 for her 1985 Whoopi Goldberg: Direct from Broadway, and two Emmy Awards, one for her work on The View in 2009 and another as the Host of Beyond Tara: The Extraordinary Life of Hattie McDaniel in 2002, and a Tony for her performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002.

Goldberg has been celebrated for her comedy, winning the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2001, but it’s her comedic roles in tandem with her dramatic roles, chiefly in movies such as The Color Purple, that have earned her the level of fame and respect she has garnered in her multi-decade career.

The fame and respect she currently has are why a death hoax in her name fizzled out as soon as it was uttered. Goldberg is very visible, and her loss would surely be reported as soon as it happened.
