Melanie Chisholm spent one part of her childhood in her hometown, until her family moved to Widnes, Cheshire. She went to Fairfeld High School, and parallel with her education there, she also attended drama, dance, singing and musical theatre at the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts in Sidcup, Southeast London. While there, she replied to an ad in “The Stage” magazine by Bob and Chris Herbert, who were looking for talented girls to form a girl band. Soon, she left college, and continued education at the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, where she studied modern theatre dance.

Melanie’s professional musical career began in 1994, when she became a member of the Spice Girls, alongside Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell, and Emma Bunton. The following year, they signed a contract with Virgin record label, and in 1996 released their debut studio album “Spice”, which achieved enormous worldwide success, as it peaked at No. 1 in more than 15 countries, and achieved multi-platinum certification in 25 countries. The album sold 30 million copies, becoming one of the most successful albums of all time and the biggest-selling album in music history by a girl band. Hit singles from the album such as “Wannabe”, “2 Become 1”, and “Mama” reached No. 1 on the UK chart, which added a considerable amount to Mel’s net worth.
