Manish Chandra Poshmark

Poshmark is a fun and simple way to buy and sell fashion – right on your iPhone.

Poshmark is the biggest community marketplace. A platform for fashion where anyone can buy, sell and share their personal style. With millions of shoppers and over one million sellers, Poshmark brings together a vibrant community every day to express themselves and share their love of fashion.

The company has made it so easy to sell your style that the Poshmark community uploads over $2 million worth of inventory into the marketplace every day – right from their phones.

Poshmark is an online marketplace where sellers can post already used items for sale, including clothes, jewelry, and makeup, and shoppers can bid on the merchandise. Poshmark takes a 20 % drop from the sales.

Chandra said Poshmark has more than 3 million sellers who post about $4 million worth of fashion inventory to the site every day. He refused to provide numbers for revenue or customers. The company has burned through less than $50 million in cash since it was founded in 2011, and is not currently profitable, Chandra said.

Poshmark also announced on Tuesday a voice-enabled service available through Amazon’s personal assistant, Alexa. Users can request help selecting a certain outfit or style, and sellers on Poshmark will upload personalized outfit suggestions to the shopper’s online account.

While it’s investing in new technologies, Chandra said the company has got no plans to replace sellers with robots. “We are using technology to bring people together rather than replace them,” he said. “There are actual people interacting and talking and consulting with you like it used to be in the olden days.”

Manish Chandra Redwood City

Redwood City, California-based Poshmark, which provides a service to buy and sell second-hand clothing and accessories, raised the funds at a valuation of nearly $600 million, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Poshmark refused to put into the limelight its valuation.
The Temasek-led financing offers Poshmark a potential strategic partner for its planned expansion into Asia next year, said Chief Executive Manish. The company, which operates only in the U.S, is also planning on launching in Europe in 2018.

Morgan Stanley advised Poshmark on the financing round, Chandra said. The company’s previous investors include venture capital firms GGV Capital, Menlo Ventures and Mayfield.

Manish Chandra Online Fashion Marketplace

Fashionistas have earned a total of one billion dollar selling clothes and accessories through online marketplace Poshmark, the startup’s chief executive told Reuters on Tuesday, highlighting the opportunity still available for young e-commerce companies despite the ever-present threat of Amazon.com Inc.

The earnings have been spread across four million sellers on the site since the Silicon Valley company’s founding in 2011, said founder and CEO Manish Chandra, although much of the income is concentrated in a group of sellers making 5, 6 and even 7 figures. Poshmark keeps 20 % of each sale.

For the current year, Poshmark is projecting annual revenue of $150 million to $200 million, according to a spokeswoman.

Poshmark, which has raised nearly 160 million dollars from investors, is an online marketplace for individuals to sell clothes and accessories ranging from old T-shirts to high-end boutique dresses and private labels; shoppers can bid on the merchandise. Poshmark collects data on shoppers to offer personalized outfit suggestions, and individual stylists make fashion recommendations.

Chandra said the company marries the speed and efficiency of high-tech commerce – purchases are shipped within a couple of days – with a personal touch not usually found online.

“It’s really a shopping experience that used to exist maybe 20 years back in the physical retail world,” Chandra said. The company recently raised $87.5 million at a valuation of nearly $600 million, Reuters reported in November.
