During an interview the said the best part of working in the same field is “we instinctively understand each other’s daily roller coaster ride, from the challenges and setbacks to the breakthroughs and moments of exhilaration. Whether our minds are preoccupied with the needs of a patient, designing the next experiment, or providing the best advice to a research trainee, we can always rely on each other for sound and reliable feedback.”

On December 7, 2020 she was nominated by President-elect Joe Biden to the position of director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The love of my life for 25 years and counting @RWalensky has been nominated to lead @CDCgov at this critical moment. I am so grateful to @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris and @Transition46 for their faith in this truly remarkable woman. She will work tirelessly to protect & save lives.

Loren Walensky Lab

In 2006 Walensky founded his cancer chemical biology research laboratory, The Walensky laboratory where he serves as the principal investigator. Their research focuses on the chemical biology of deregulated apoptotic and transcriptional pathways in cancer.

According to their website, their studies “emphasize the chemical, structural, and cell biology of the BCL-2 family signaling network. We have developed and applied “stapled peptides” that preserve the structure of biologically-active domains as new chemical probes and prototype therapeutics to respectively dissect and target the BCL-2 family and other pathologic signaling pathways.”
