Lexington Lab band members consist of 83 different musicians hailing from Kentucky. Lexington Lab band itself is more of a collective than a traditional band.

The Band hails from Lexington, Kentucky, and has been active for the last ten years according to their website. All the musicians who have ever been in the band are from Central Kentucky.

The band’s music itself is a mix between a cover and a tribute band where they put their own spin on famous pop and rock songs from the past 50 years. Given that there are so many members, they incorporate a wide variety of instruments and sometimes feature upwards of 3-5 vocalists for one song.

Despite the zany idea behind the whole project, Lexington Lab Band is fairly popular and has amassed over 148K subscribers on their YouTube channel. The most popular video on the channel has even amassed over 22 million views.

Lexington Lab Band Members

Lexington Lab Band Members can be split into three categories. The categories are founding members, prominent members, and other members.

The founding members of the band are:

• Michael Vandemark – Music Director
• Dale Adams – Guitars
• Derrick Breaux – Vocals, Guitars, Bass
• Ryan McQuerry – Drums
• Rob Pottorf – Keys, Guitars, Vocals

Michael Vandemark

Michael Vandemark is the founder and brainchild behind Lexing Lab Band. Vandemark is the musical director and vocalist of the band.

The idea for the Lexington Lab Band came to Vandemark in the early 2010s when he was working as a Programming Director at Southland Christian Church in Lexington. In charge of 90+ musicians, Vandemark already knew how to command a large group of artists.

Vandemark’s station, combined with his fascination with the mechanics of songwriting, led him to reach out to various local musicians to create a cover band not necessarily to record cover songs, but to explore how they were originally created.

To that end, Vandemark created the band after going to the Darryl Hall Show where a new guest was featured every week, and by emulating that idea, Lexington Lab was born.

Dale Adams

Dale Adams is a founding member and one of the many guitarists of Lexington Lab Band. Dale is one of Vandemark’s closest friends.

Precisely due to their friendship, Adams was the first person that Vandemark came to when he had the idea for the band. Adams immediately agreed to join and started brainstorming with Vandemark on how they could bring the idea to fruition.

It was Adams who decided to move the idea onto YouTube so they could document their journey and have a platform to share their music as neither Adams nor Vandemark wanted to perform live.

Derrick Breaux

Derrick Breaux is also a founding member of the Lexington Lab Band. Breaux is in charge of vocals, guitars, and the bass.

As one of the founding members of the group, Breaux has been there since the beginning of the band and continues to provide help with the singing and the two-string instruments whenever he can.

As for his personal life, he lives in Nicholasville, Kentucky, and is married to Lauren Hudnall Breaux, with whom he has three beautiful children, two sons, and a daughter. The guitarist’s family are all devout believers in Christ.

Ryan McQuerry

Ryan McQuerry is the drummer of the Lexington Lab Band. McQuerry is a celebrated drummer and won the 2017 Lexington Music Awards.

Though many members of the band are multi-instrumentalists, McQuerry has long since been denoted as the main drummer of the band. Aside from Lexington Lab, he is also the drummer for the John Hatfield band.

Like Breaux, Ryan is married and his wife’s name is Kristin McQuerry. The two also have a son together who is the spitting image of his father.

Rob Pottorf

Rob Pottorf is the last founding member of the Lexington Lab Band. Pottorf plays the keyboards and guitars and also sings for the band.

Pottorf probably has the most outright luscious life out of all the members of the band. The musician is not only that but also a composer for film, television, and live entertainment who has been nominated for an Emmy award.

The score he got an Emmy nomination for was the prestigious movie I Am Patrick starring John Rhys-Davies. Pottorf’s music can be heard in other prominent movies like:

• When We Last Spoke
• The Ultimate Legacy
• The Trial
• Mountain Top

Pottorf was a young prodigy as he started playing music at the young age of five, and within four years was already writing his own music. When he graduated college, he was instantly granted an internship at a recording studio and got hired at Paramount as the Music director and Senior Music Composer for their theme Park Division.

However, Pottorf quit in 1999 and has been making scores for film and television ever since, alongside his work with the band.

Lexington Lab Band Prominent Members

Lexington lab band prominent members are non-founding members who are given second billing after the founders. The prominent members are:

• Austin Vitucci – Keys, Guitars, Vocals
• Randy Refalo – Bass
• Jessica McKenney – Vocal Director, Vocalist

Austin Vitucci

Austin Vitucci is the pianist of the band although he plays guitars and sings too. Vitucci is instantly recognizable by his long hair.

Like Vandemark, Vitucci is also a member of the Southland Christian Church and works there as a Music Director. The pianist also used to be a member of the band Raleigh Keegan as a bassist.

Though he currently lives in Lexington, he hails from Charleston, South Carolina where he managed a Jimmy John’s.

Randy Refalo

Randy Refalo is the bassist of the Lexington Lab Band. Refalo is one of the few members to only play one instrument.

Refalo is a recognized bassist all over Lexington, Kentucky, and has routinely been lauded for his work. From being nominated for the 2nd Annual Lexington Music Award in 2015 and again the following year, the bassist has been well applauded for his work with the four-stringed instrument.

Jessica McKenney

Jessica McKenney is the vocalist and vocal director of the Lexington Lab Band. McKenney is the second de-facto leader of the group.

The reason why is that she often accompanies Vandemark whenever they go on interviews or press runs. As such, many people see her, alongside Vandemark, as the face of the group.

Like many other members of the group, McKenney too is married and a follower of Christ.
