Mohandas Dewese is a New York City-born American rapper as well as an occasional actor. Born on 8 August 1962, under his stage name “Kool Moe Dee” he is widely noted for being the first rapper ever to perform at the Grammys while also being one of the first rappers to win one. One of the most popular rappers who gained his hype through late 70s until 90s, Kool has been active in his profession since 1976.
A widely popular Grammy winning rapper, one may wonder how rich is Kool Moe Dee? As estimated by sources, Kool Moe Dee counts his net worth at an amount of $500,000 in early 2016, his involvement in the music sector being the main source of income. Having released a total of six studio albums and several more compilation albums has managed to earn quite well for Kool Moe Dee over the years.
Kool Moe Dee Net Worth $500,000
Manhattan-raised Kool Moe Dee attended State University of New York at Old Westbury to earn a BA degree. In his teenage years, he started his career as a rapper as he met artists like Special K, LA Sunshine and DJ Easy Lee and formed a group named “Treacherous Three” – the group was signed to Enjoy Records in 1981. As a part of the group, Kool Moe Dee released songs like “Feel The Heart Beat”, “Action”, “The New Rap Language” and more. The song “The New Rap Language” made him noted for inventing the double time flow rapping technique which involved rapid sixteen-note rhythms. Also, as a part of this group Kool Moe Dee appeared in the movie “Beat Street”, all of which provided the base for his net worth.
In 1985 the Treacherous Three disbanded, and a year later, Kool Moe Dee initiated his solo career in music. His self-titled solo album was released and it went on to rank at #83 on Billboard. Until today, he has released a total of six solo albums including “How Ya Like Me Now”, “Knowledge Is King”, “Funke, Funke Wisdom”, “Interlude” among others. Kool Moe Dee is also noted for having a rivalry with another rapper, LL Cool J as he claimed that LL had stolen their rap styles and disrespected rappers like Melle Mel and Grandmaster Caz. Of course, being a part of all these projects has added significantly to Kool Moe Dee’s riches over time.
In addition to releasing his own albums, Kool Moe Dee has also appeared in several other songs performed by other famous artists. Notably, he appeared in Will Smith’s movie “Wild Wild West” performing his song of the same title. He has also authored a book entitled “There’s A God On The Mic”, and has been hosting an internet hip hop talk show “SpitFire With Kool Moe Dee”. Including these, Kool Moe Dee has appeared in a total of 17 movies and television shows as an actor until today along with several appearances as himself.
As of now, Kool Moe Dee keeps his personal life very private, but meantime enjoys his career as an accomplished rapper and hip hop MC while his present net worth of $500,000 caters to his daily life.
