Charge & Arrested

The mentally disturbed suspect was arrested Sunday after cops arrived at the scene and found her praying next to the victim’s dead body, police in the northeastern state of Alagoas said in a news release. The woman had reportedly used a pair of scissors to cut her child’s organs inside the family’s bathroom before trying to swallow them.

Josimare Killed her daughter

The victim’s grandfather reportedly saw blood running from the outside drain – and then broke into the bathroom where Josimare and her daughter, Brenda Carollyne Pereira da Silva were.

He found his granddaughter’s lifeless body beside her mother – who was praying in a daze – and called the police. The five-year-old’s eyes were gouged out and her tongue had been cut off in the horrific ordeal.

Investigators believe that these injuries, inflicted with a pair of scissors while she was still alive, caused her death. It has also been reported that Josimare, who was sedated and then taken to the police station in Delmiro Gouveia, Alagoas, had chewed on her daughter’s amputated tongue.

The mum allegedly gave a statement to the police the following morning in a number of languages, including Spanish.

During the incoherent statement, she is said to have denied gouging out her daughter’s eyes and putting her daughter’s amputated tongue in her own mouth.

Mental Health Condition

The woman, who is known to suffer from mental health issues including depression, is believed to have carried out the attack during a psychotic episode.

She was being held at a police station in Delmiro Gouveia and will be transferred to a women’s prison in the state capital of Maceio during the investigation.

Investigation Report

Brazilian police are investigating the barbaric murder of a 5-year-old child whose mother allegedly beat her to death, removed her eyeballs and part of her tongue and then tried to eat the child’s organs in an apparent psychotic episode this week, according to local authorities and multiple news reports.

Police said the investigation is in the early stages, but they believe the woman was having a severe psychotic episode when she attacked her own child.

The suspect was later taken to a hospital for treatment as prosecutors continue to investigate the case and determine the charges against her.

The incident happened Sunday evening in the rural town of Maravilha, about 150 miles west of the coastal city of Maceió.
