George Lopez Heath Conditions

Lopez has a genetic condition that has caused his kidneys to fail.

His doctors informed him in April 2004 that he would need an organ transplant, but he postponed the procedure until the fourth season of George Lopez was completed. His wife Ann donated one of her kidneys to Lopez in 2005.

The transplant was successful, and Lopez lost 45 pounds (20 kilograms) due to his improved health. In addition, he raised awareness about the issue by having his character’s son Max be diagnosed with a similar illness on his show.
