There is no credible information or evidence indicating that Iowa school student Dylan Butler was transgender.

The speculation about Butler’s gender identity arose from a Pride flag emoji on a TikTok profile allegedly linked to the shooter.

However, law enforcement has not commented on the suspect’s gender identity.

Chaya Raichik began posting on social media, alleging Butler to be gender fluid based on a hashtag supposedly included in the person’s social media footprint.

Raichik later posted a meme inaccurately linking several mass shooters to the LGBTQ+ community, drawing Elon Musk’s attention on the platform X, formerly Twitter.

Historically, most mass shooters have been cisgender men, and instances involving transgender or nonbinary individuals are exceedingly rare.

The majority of mass shootings are carried out by cisgender men, as confirmed by organizations like The Violence Project and the Gun Violence Archive.

Speculation about Butler’s gender identity highlights the dangers of spreading unverified information and the potential for misinformation to be weaponized for various agendas.
