Ryan Smyth, a former professional ice hockey player, is enjoying family time following his retirement. He appeared alongside his kids and wife in the Oilers Hall Of Fame ceremony.

The former player was noted for playing in the power forward style and is now one of the AJHL Spruce Grove Saints owners.

He played three seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the Moose Jaw Warriors, accumulating 105 points in 1993-94. The Edmonton Oilers then selected him sixth in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

Ryan only played three games with the Oilers that year since he spent the rest of the season in Moose Jaw. The athlete played with the Edmonton Oilers for 12 seasons before being moved to the New York Islanders in 2007 owing to contract negotiations failing.

Smyth signed a five-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche after becoming an unrestricted free agent the next off-season. In July 2009, the athlete was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings after spending two seasons with the franchise.

Ryan Smyth’s Son Alex Smyth Drives To The Net For Team Brick

Ryan Smyth has had a lot of great hockey experiences in his 19-year NHL career, but the popular former Edmonton Oilers winger is having an extra memorable one at the 2018 Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament at West Edmonton Mall.

The former player was cheering on his son Alex, who is a member of Team Brick. Alex was dressed in his father’s famed No. 94 jersey, which holds a special place in the hearts of many Oilers fans.

Alex’s playing shares some parallels with his father’s, although he plays in a distinct way from his father’s. When Team Brick is on the power play, Alex also hangs around the crease, displaying the same persistent work ethic that earned his father a fan favorite during his NHL career.

Alex, on the other hand, wants to improve his game as a playmaking center on both sides of the rink.

Alex is an important member of Team Brick as he is one of the team’s leaders, with one goal and two assists in five games.

Alex wasn’t born when his father won an Olympic gold medal for Canada in Salt Lake City in 2002, or his two World Championship gold medals in 2003 and 2004, all of which helped Ryan earn the nickname Captain Canada.

But the former athlete’s son was present for his final international competition, the 2012 Spengler Cup.
