As fans eagerly anticipate the unfolding drama in the world of “The Blacklist,” a notable face from the ’80s teen film era has stepped into the spotlight. Andrew McCarthy, renowned for his roles in classics like “Pretty in Pink,” has not only graced the screen but also made significant contributions behind the scenes, including directing episodes of the hit NBC series.

McCarthy recently marked his debut in front of “The Blacklist” camera, bringing his acting prowess to the popular show. However, his journey with the series is not solely confined to acting; McCarthy has worn the director’s hat for a total of 26 episodes, showcasing his versatile skills both on and off the set. This includes his directorial contributions to three Season 10 installments, solidifying his integral role in shaping the show’s narrative.

The collaboration between Andrew McCarthy and James Spader, his old friend and fellow ’80s film luminary, extends beyond their time on “The Blacklist.” The dynamic duo first crossed paths in 1985 and went on to share the screen in three memorable movies – “Pretty in Pink,” “Mannequin,” and “Less Than Zero.” The chemistry between McCarthy and Spader left an indelible mark on these films, captivating audiences with their on-screen camaraderie.

Reflecting on their enduring friendship, McCarthy shared insights into the unique bond he shares with James Spader. “My old friend James Spader. We met in ’85, did three movies together (Pretty in Pink, Mannequin, Less Than Zero) and lost touch for 20 years,” McCarthy revealed. The revelation offers a glimpse into the evolution of their friendship over the years, with a hiatus that lasted two decades.

However, the narrative took a delightful turn in the past decade, as McCarthy resumed regular interactions with Spader, albeit in a different capacity. “For the past decade, I’ve been dropping in often to direct his show, Blacklist,” McCarthy added, emphasizing his transition from on-screen collaborator to behind-the-scenes director.

In 2015, McCarthy embarked on a new creative endeavor, directing three episodes in Season 2 of “The Blacklist.” Starring James Spader and Megan Boone, the NBC hit television series provided McCarthy with a platform to showcase his directorial finesse. The episodes stand as a testament to McCarthy’s ability to seamlessly transition between acting and directing, contributing to the show’s continued success.

As fans revel in the on-screen chemistry and off-screen camaraderie between McCarthy and Spader, the legacy of their cinematic collaboration and professional synergy continues to captivate audiences. The reunion of these two iconic figures from the ’80s serves as a delightful reminder of the enduring connections forged in the ever-evolving landscape of the entertainment industry.
