Who Were His Victims? Trial Video

Breivik was found guilty of mass murder, triggering a lethal explosion, and terrorism during his trial in July 2012. He was determined to be mentally ill and responsible for the murders of 77 individuals.

He was sentenced to 21 years in jail, with a minimum of 10 years in prison and the potential of one or more extensions for as long as he is considered a risk to society.

In Norway, this is the maximum penalty. Breivik said that he did not acknowledge the court’s validity. Therefore he did not accept its verdict and opted not to appeal, claiming that doing so would legitimate the Oslo District Court’s power.

Breivik was evaluated by two teams of forensic psychiatrists ordered by the court prior to his trial. Breivik was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia by the first team. Telemark District Court began a four-day trial on January 18, 2022, to determine whether to overturn or uphold the District Attorney’s parole rejection.

Breivik’s lawyer has requested that the trial be placed in a courtroom rather than at the jail in 2022.

His 2012 trial video is available online, as is his most recent trial video, accessed on theguardian.com.
