Erik Salitan rose to fame as an American who once lived his life in the remote and harsh arctic region, 67 miles north of the Arctic Circle in Wiseman, Alaska. He lived there with his wife, Martha Mae Salitan and his son, Lucas Salitan. He managed to make ends meet by organizing fishing and hunting parties in the wilderness where they live.

The pair starred on Life Below Zero, a BBC Worldwide show airing on National Geographic Channel. In addition to them, Chip Hailstone and Agnes Hailstone with their 7 children, Glenn Villeneuve, Andy Bassich with his 25 dogs, Jessie Holmes and his 40 dogs, and Sue Aikens, also feature in the Emmy Award-winning television series.

In this article, you’ll learn more about Erik and everything that happened in his life before he became a reality TV star. Of course, his wife Martha will hardly ever be left out, and we’ll conclude by telling you everything we know about why he left Life Below Zero.

Erik Salitan Biography,

Erik Salitan is an Aquarian as he was born on the 9th day of February in New York, USA. He grew up in the rural 48 states of upstate New York, where he lived a simple life. He completed Grade 12 at Finger Lakes Community College, after which he enrolled at the University of Fairbanks where he earned a degree in Applied Science. After graduating and being an adventurous man from childhood, Erik decided to move to Wiseman, a 100 km distance in the arctic region, to start living the life he had always dreamed of.

In Wiseman, and with his knowledge of survival in the wilderness, where he practiced fishing, tracking, and hunting, Salitan created a guide and outfitter he named Bushwhack Alaska Guiding and Outfitting. Through this business, he renders tour guides, accommodations, and dining facilities in the Brooks Range and another on the Peninsula to visitors wanting to take an Alaskan-area excursion.

By doing this, Erik Salitan has not only become successful; He also became famous in the region for his expertise in strategies for living and surviving in the Alaskan wilderness. The guide is also a member of various conservation and hunting groups, including the Northwest Sportsman Club and the Alaska Professional Hunters Association.

Family: wife and son

Erik Salitan is a married man. He is the husband of Martha Mae Salitan, born in Alaska, born and raised in Iliamna. Martha compliments her husband in every way she can, having the desert way of life ingrained in her.

Not much is known about how they met but seeing what excites them both, we can easily deduce that their passion brought them together. The couple are the father of Lucas Salitan, their son born in 2010. Lucas attends Wood River Elementary School. When school is not in session, he spends time with his parents, as we have seen many times in their hunting videos.

What happened to life below zero stars?

Erik and Martha originally served as one of the original cast members of Life Below Zero, which aired on the National Geographic Channel in May 2013, alongside other cast members we mentioned above.

The couple appeared in all 4 seasons of the show as it ran from 2013 to 2016 before they left. Initially, no reason was given as to why they left the show; none of the couple neither from National Geographic Channel. When their absence became too obvious to ignore, some people started making assumptions about why they left the show.

One of the many reasons offered was that Erik Salitan became increasingly uncomfortable living a significant portion of his life in front of the camera. Although his ambition has always been to live in nature, his primary goal was not to show it to everyone on television.

Second, Erik had a thriving Alaskan tour business before becoming a star of show business. Thus, he is above all a tourist guide before becoming a television personality. Apparently, if the first hypothesis holds true as the reason why he left the show, this second reason reinforces the fact that he craves a life outside of the reality show.

The third hypothesis concerns the demands of parenthood. As you already know, the couple have a son who has the responsibility to bring up the best he can. Obviously, they can’t experience this in the Alaskan wilderness while their son goes to school in the city.
