Prep Curtis Sittenfeld, Summary

Prep, Curtis’ first novel, revolves around a girl from South Bend, Indiana, known as Lee Fiora, who goes to Ault School, an elite boarding school near Boston, Massachusetts. Ault is the kind of spot where, in case you’re a young lady, your social standing is estimated by the measured nature of the blossom plan on your bedspread.

Furthermore, the plot deals with coming of age, self-identity, and class distinctions in the preppy and competitive atmosphere. Most noteworthy, it is also known that the novel took her three years to write, was published in 2005.

However, it was dismissed by 14 publishers before it found a home since it’s presentation is an addictive picture of immaturity – The OC meets Donna Tartt’s The Secret History with flashes of Clueless.

After rave surveys and turning into a New York Times blockbuster, it has likewise been optioned as a film by Paramount. Nonetheless, Prep doesn’t come glossed over: it is a dim and fanatical assessment of the brutality of the coolness chain of importance.

In the end, despite all her investigative observations, Lee Fiora realizes virtually nothing at Ault until years after she leaves the school. To pen-off, Curtis’ effort is in making the experience in the novel feel universal.

In addition to this,  Prep was labeled “cult-classic” by Entertainment Weekly in a 2018 reassessment. Prep also was chosen as one of the Ten Best Books of 2005 by The New York Times, nominated for the UK’s Orange Prize, and optioned by Paramount Pictures.

Curtis Sittenfeld Eligible

Eligible is a truth universally acknowledged that a much-loved classic must be in want of a modern makeover. Or so it would appear from the succession of the contemporary screen and literary reworkings of Jane Austen’s novels, from the 1995 film Clueless, which transplanted Emma to a Beverly Hills high school, to the glorious gyrations of the Bollywood update, Bride and Prejudice (2004).

This year alone we’ve seen Unleashing Mr. Darcy (based on the 2013 novel by Teri Wilson), which relocated the action to a New York dog show, and the wholly irreverent Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on the 2009 novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, which got to number three on the New York Times bestseller list.

While Austen’s young heroines were under pressure to tie the knot, Sittenfeld has made them considerably older and the tick of the biological clock considerably louder. Elizabeth is now a 38-year-old freelance journalist for Mascara magazine.

Involved in a desultory affair with the faithless (and married) Jasper Wick, aka Mr. Wickham. Jane is nearly 40, a yoga teacher in New York, undergoing artificial insemination from anonymous sperm donors, having given up on more traditional routes to motherhood.
