Chip met Agnes in Alaska after moving from Montana. They eventually became close and married, starting a family. Agnes was formerly a principal of their company Caribou Arts and Adventures, but the company soon became inactive. They subsequently decided to live entirely off the land, and their endeavors were eventually noticed by the National Geographic Channel. This led them to be approached to be part of the reality show “Life Below Zero”, which features them migrating and also showcases their hunting practices and other efforts at living off the land. They also do tanning, crafting, fishing and skinning – one of the most notable things they do in the show is that they use every part of the animals they kill. Agnes is often seen hunting with their daughter in the show, plus they also use bartering as their form of economy.

“Life Below Zero” is shown as a documentary style television show and is produced by BBC Worldwide. Agnes has spent her entire life in Alaska and is a member of the cast who has spent the longest time in the area. She has family ties in the area, and uses practices stemming from thousands of years’ worth of knowledge of the land in which they live. There are five other people which “Life Below Zero” focuses on; all of them are shown trying to survive in Alaska’s often below zero conditions. They focus on each cast member’s struggles, especially on their lack of non-natural resources, and include the sole resident of Kavik River Camp in North Alaska Sue Aikens, sole resident of Chandalar Glenn Villenueve, dogsled racers Jessie Holmes and Andy Bassich, and Arctic Circle resident Erik Salitan. The show has run for nine seasons starting from 2013, and the cast members’ net worth has increased significantly thanks to the success of the show.
