Brandi Carlile Had Twin Daughters With Her Wife Catherine Shepherd Through IVF

In an essay for Parents magazine, Brandi Carlile opens up about her life with her wife Catherine Shepherd and their daughters Elijah, 2, and Evangeline, 6.

The couple used IVF to have their first child, harvesting Carlile’s eggs for Catherine to carry. She shared her experience as complicated and beautiful.

She further explained that the whole process was an odd experience since she was neither the dad nor the one carrying the baby being pregnant. Thus, the various changes in Catherine and her uncomfortable time and how to comfort her was an idea that was alien to them.

When they decided to grow their family, they decided against IVF because “Catherine was reluctant to take IVF drugs” once more. Instead, they tried artificial insemination, and she became pregnant with their second child this time. They “felt like pros” with baby No. 2, she remarked.
