Blippi started making gross-out videos in 2013 under the persona of Steezy Grossman, a boy born as poop. He developed videos such as “Turdboy” and “Underwear Man”. Blippi is known for performing the Harlem shake on a toilet and defecated on a naked friend in 2013. He used DMCA takedown notices to remove the video from social media and internet search engines.

In a 2013 interview, John said that the feces was real and true and stated, “I think it’s funny. That’s the reason why I like to shit in films and shit: ’cause shit is funny.” When the video was unearthed by Buzzfeed in 2019, John said, “at the time, I thought this sort of thing was funny, but really it was stupid and tasteless, and I regret having ever done it.” The Harlem Shake poop video is no longer available online, however, there are numerous reaction videos to it on YouTube. The website, harlemshakepoop.com, and the video are archived at archive.org.

Blippi Blippi Creation: Blippi YouTube

This idea came to him after moving back to Ellensburg and witnessing his then two-year-old nephew viewing low-quality videos on YouTube. He has been described as “an adult human man who dresses up in bright clothes and dances around America’s deserted soft play centers for the benefit of YouTube”.

On January 27, 2014, he published the first Blippi video. He stared, did all the filming, editing, and graphics himself on the initial videos. Blippi’s inspiration came from children’s educators and entertainers before him, such as Mr. Rogers.

In 2019, he was criticized when he performed a “bait and switch”, advertising a Blippi tour for which parents paid hundreds of dollars, but not making it clear that Blippi would not be played by him, but by an impersonator.
