Early Life And Upbringing

American fighter Bernard Hopkins was born as Bernard Humphrey Hopkins Jr on 15th January 1965, making him 57.

Growing up in Philadelphia, he quickly got incorporated into the local gang as he lived in the most crime-ridden projects in Philly.

By 13, he was a proud gang member, with petty thefts like mugging and robbery, under his name.

When he was still a child, he got retribution when he got sent to the emergency room three times with stab wounds.

At 18, the list of his crimes bore no end as he was sent to Graterford Prison for 18 years in 1982.

Things took a turn in prison when the price of life had no meaning as he saw an inmate getting slaughtered for just a lousy pack of cigarettes. He knew he needed to protect himself and get out alive and thus began boxing.
