Last season, Tony Stubblefield received an even $400,000 total as his base salary. He is now the second-highest-paid assistant men’s basketball coach.

The 52-year-old had established his career as an assistant coach, his time as a head coach came at New Mexico state in the 2004-05 season.

Before joining New Mexico State University, he worked as an assistant at the University of Oregon, the University of Cincinnati, and New Mexico State, where he served as interim head coach for the 2004–2005 campaign due to Lou Henson’s illness.

Stubblefield is currently the head men’s basketball coach at DePaul University. He recently signed a five-year deal making him the permanent head coach for the first time in his career.

Tony Stubblefield Will Earn Over $170K In Salary As Depaul Basketball Coach

Tony Stubblefield earned more than $170K as a salary from his time as Assistant coach at the University of Oregon. However, he is expected to make more as the Depaul basketball head coach.

Moreover, he earned $400K in the last season with Oregon. Since graduating, Stubblefield has worked as an assistant coach at Omaha, Texas-San Antonio, Texas-Arlington, and New Mexico State. In addition, he served as NMS U’s interim head coach as Lou Henson battled Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the 2004–2005 season.

Later, he was hired by Mick Cronin at Cincinnati, where he worked for four seasons before joining the Oregon coaching staff in 2021. He played a significant role in helping Oregon reach the Final Four last season, and the Ducks were drawn to him primarily due to his recruiting expertise.

Oregon recruited Stubblefield to leave Cincinnati, which had convinced him to go to New Mexico State. He served as the Aggies’ recruiting coordinator while at New Mexico State.

DePaul agreed to appoint Tony Stubblefield from Oregon as its next head basketball coach. He replaced Dave Leitao, who was fired on March 15th.

According to registerguard, DePaul tried to sign Kenny Payne away from the New York Knicks, but the deal was called off at the final minute. So Tony will now attempt to revive a program that used to control Chicago winters. DePaul had finished last in the Big East for the 11th time in 13 seasons.

DePaul and Oregon assistant Tony Stubblefield have reached an agreement for Stubblefield to take over as the men’s basketball coach of the Blue Demons.

CBS Sports reports that he signed a five-year contract to revive the DePaul Blue Demons, who haven’t advanced past the NCAA Tournament since 2004.

Sports director DeWayne Peevy, who took over in August after working for Kentucky’s athletic department for 12 years, has made his first significant hiring after he recruited the 52-year-old. As a result, Stubblefield has become the only sixth African-American head coach in the 11-team Big East.

Tony Stubblefield Started His Coaching Career At 16

Tony Stubblefield used the word coach to describe him when he was just 16 and started training college kids. He dreamt of becoming a coach at a young age.

Stubblefield was more than competitive on the University of Nebraska-Omaha floor. However, it was the first time he wasn’t the team’s best player.

As he spent his undergraduate summers working and coaching kids at camps at Iowa State, South Dakota, Creighton, and large Nebraska in Lincoln for $200 per week, his thoughts of playing began to evaporate.

Stubblefield began his professional coaching career as a student assistant for two seasons at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, his alma mater. It was where he completed his undergraduate degree in 1995.

The 52-year-old has been chiefly an assistant coach throughout his two-decade-long career, except for a spell as the interim head coach at New Mexico State in 2004-5.

Stubblefield has worked as an assistant coach at Omaha, Texas-San Antonio, Texas-Arlington, and New Mexico State. NMSU recruited him as a temporary head coach for 2004–2005 season. After that, he was hired by Mick Cronin at Cincinnati, where he played for four seasons.

Tony spent four years as an assistant at the University of Cincinnati, coordinating recruiting for the Bearcats from 2006 to 2010. He then joined the Ducks. He’s been at Oregon under head coach Dana Altman since 2010.

He lured and recruited Lance Stephenson at Cincinnati, the all-time leading scorer in New York State history. He also recruited Jalen Terry at DePaul and has earned a lot of positive feedback for it.
