During his freshman year in college, the youth pastor invited him to join the church’s youth worship band, which he accepted. The band traveled to Switzerland to play.

Bart Millard Grew Up In A Family Of Four

Bart Millard was born to parents Arthur Millard and Adele Millard in Greenville, Texas. Millard was the younger of two children to Arthur and Adele.

Millard didn’t have a normal childhood and his family couldn’t stay together intact for long thanks to many different reasons.

Arthur Millard Was Once A Football Prodigy

Native of Texas, Arthur attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas for his college education. During his college years, Bart’s dad was a rising star player for its football team, the SMU Mustangs.

Although he could’ve pursued his career further in football, he left it all behind to return back to his home in Greenville. It was when he returned, he met Millard’s mother Adele, and the two got married.

Bart’s father had been hired by the department of transportation, where he worked for several years. However, one day when at work he was mistakenly hit by a semi-truck while on the job.

Unfortunately, Arthur was sent into a coma for two months and the accident had a severe impact on his brain causing it to be damaged. Millard’s dad was never the same and the freak incident never let off him until his last breath.

Adele, Millard’s late mom tried to cope with her husband and his condition but his instability and the difficulties surrounding him meant that she could no longer bear it for the rest of her life, prompting her to leave behind her husband and children. Bart was only in his 3rd grade at school.

Arthur passed away when Bart was in his freshman year in college due to Cancer. When Arthur knew he had no time left, he used to go to church and read the bible all the time. Bart even recalls hearing his dad pray for his two sons late into the night every night in his room.

The chart-topping song “I Can Only Imagine,” was written down by Bart in honor and remembrance of his late father.

Bart’s Elder Sibling Didn’t Appreciate His Movie At First

Bart Millard is five years younger than his sibling Stephen Millard. The two brothers grew up together in Greenville, Texas.

When their mother walked away it was the two of them who took care of their dad until he passed away. Bart and Stephen share a strong bond, however, Stephen shared his displeasure regarding his younger siblings’ movie from 2018, “I Can Only Imagine.”

Bart had decided to focus on the part where Arthur used to abuse his sons in no part in his own conscience. The accident had left him damaged and impacted his brain in a difficult manner.

After the abuses, however, when he could realize what had just happened, Arthur used to call upon his sons and ask for forgiveness and apologize. He later healed to some degree before his death but Stephen claimed he was heartbroken to see his younger brother exaggerate their dad’s abuse to print more money.

As they say, time heals everything and after some time after the movie’s release, the two brothers got together and remembered their childhood and all they had to go through, bringing them closer than ever.

Stephen left the house reaching adulthood and worked at a factory in Dallas. He resides with his family in Texas. Bart claims his brother to be his absolute hero.
