Born in Chicago, Illinois, Chlumsky is the daughter of Nancy and Frank. With her parents both connected to the performing arts, it’s no surprise that Chlumsky ended up in acting. As a child, she modelled alongside her mother, until she got a small role in the movie “Uncle Buck” in 1989.

Eventually Chlumsky’s short role led to a starring role in the movie “My Girl” in 1991. Chlumsky played the role of Vada Sultenfuss, a young girl who just lost her mother and together with her father they face the day to day life of moving on. The movie’s theme of death, family and friendship made it a winner among audiences. The movie;s success helped Chlumsky’s net worth tremendously, even at such a young age.

Chlumsky’s movie “My Girl” was followed by the sequel “My Girl 2”, and other movies including “Trading Mom” and “Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain”. The earnings from her other movies also added to her net worth. However, with the politicking and the negative influences of showbiz, Chlumsky decided to quit showbiz and put her focus on her studies.

After finishing her high school studies in Walter Lutheran High School, Chlumsky attended the University of Chicago, and graduated with a degree in international studies, after which she worked in a publishing company and later at Zagat Survey as a fact-checker and Harper Collins as an editorial assistant for its science fiction-fantasy imprint. Although her career outside showbiz was going well and has maintained her wealth, Chlumsky was dissatisfied and decided to give showbiz a second chance.

Chlumsky enrolled at the Atlantic Acting School in Manhattan to hone her acting skills, and then made guest appearances in various television shows. She slowly returned to acting by appearing in shows like “30 Rock”, “Law & Order”, and “Cupid”, and she also starred in movies including “Blood Car”, “In the Loop”, and “The Good Guy” that added more to her net worth.

Chlumsky’ major come back happened when she was included in the series “Veep”. The HBO series stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the Vice-President of the United States and among her political team is Chlumsky who plays the role of Amy Brookheimer, the Vice-Presidents’ Chief of Staff. The show became a success, and Chlumsky even received multiple Emmy nominations with her performance.
