Insight On Newcombe Family

John Newcombe was born to parents George and Lillian on May 1944 in Sydney, Australia. He began playing tennis at the early age of eight, but he is sure his parents drove him into it.

He claims that they were not the conventional tennis parents like others who are well-known for thrusting their kids into the spotlight & encouraging them to achieve tennis success.

Newcombe’s parents’ inspiration and support helped him grow up to love being acknowledged & recognized. His parents are there for him from the beginning.

As part of the “Handsome Eight,” the initial eight WCT players, Newcombe made his parents proud by signing a three-year professional deal with “Lamar Hunt’s World Championship Tennis.” The annual guarantee for Newcome was $135,000, more than the highest-paid baseball player made that year.

Similarly, the International Tennis Federation disallowed Newcombe from competing in the 1972 Wimbledon Championships because he was a part of the WCT professional tour group & the Players’ Union.
