Alan Morton Dershowitz, the eminent American lawyer and legal scholar renowned for his significant contributions to U.S. constitutional law and criminal law, is equally devoted to his role as a father. Dershowitz has three adult children, each following diverse paths in their respective careers.

His first marriage to Sue Barlach bore fruit in the form of two sons: Elon Dershowitz and Jamin Dershowitz. Elon, born in 1961, carved a niche for himself as a film producer, delving into the captivating world of cinema.

Jamin, born in 1963, chose the legal path and became an attorney. Notably, Jamin’s marriage to Barbara, a Roman Catholic, played a role in inspiring Alan Dershowitz to write “The Vanishing American Jew.”

The book is dedicated to Jamin, Barbara, and their children, whom Dershowitz regards as Jewish. Jamin and Barbara are proud parents of two grandchildren, Lori and Lyle.

With his second wife, Carolyn Cohen, Alan Dershowitz welcomed a daughter named Ella in 1990. Ella, now an accomplished actress, has embraced a different educational path by attending Yale University, breaking away from the family’s longstanding loyalty to Harvard.

Despite this playful rivalry, Ella has carved her own niche in the world of theater and television. Ella’s theater credits include notable performances in productions such as “Can You Forgive Her” at the Vineyard Theater alongside actress Amber Tamblyn in 2017, the 2014 comedic show “Intimacy,” “Twelfth Night,” and “The Screenwriter’s Daughter.”

As Alan Dershowitz navigates the realms of law, academia, and public discourse, his family remains a source of pride and joy. The accomplishments of Ella, Elon, and Jamin reflect a diverse tapestry of interests and talents, adding a personal dimension to the legacy of a legal luminary.
